Shabby
Chic Home Decor Inspiration
Hi, everyone! Welcome to our
site on shabby chic decorating.
I’m hoping we can create a place that will inspire you with
new twists on
classic designs and show you easy ways to bring the shabby chic
aesthetic into
your own home or office.
Let’s
get started by looking at the history behind the
shabby chic movement. What started as a small trend in the 1980s (the
term
“shabby chic” was first used in The
World of Interiors magazine to describe the relaxed elegance of many
English country homes) has become a mainstream brand with the rise of
Rachel
Ashwell’s Simply Shabby Chic line of linens for Target. The
term is now used to
describe any design that incorporates recycled furniture with several
layers of
paint to achieve an inviting, yet sophisticated look.
To start with,
I’ll share links to some of my favorite shabby chic
blogs and resources. Of course, there are the obvious ones like Martha
Stuart
and Rachel Ashwell’s Simply Shabby Chic Target line, but
there is definitely
something to be said
for creating a truly unique look on your own.
Everyday
Beauty is a great blog by DIY-er Andrea Singarella. She posts
lovely photos
of her projects and instructions. She also has an online store that
offers
ribbons, trinkets, and sweets!
Posie
Gets Cozy by Alicia Paulson not only has great shabby chic
craft ideas, the
blog also boasts recipes and a store where you can buy the exact
materials
you’ll need to replicate some of Alicia’s precious
projects.
Remodelista
has a more modern approach to design but the overall idea of reusing
materials and keeping a room’s design approachable and at the same
time, timeless and
elegant is very much in keeping with the shabby chic mentality.
My
Romantic Home is a newer blog with great instructions on how
to take trash
to treasure.
In our
upcoming sections,
we’ll go through elements of shabby chic
design and look at examples, projects, and I hope that some of our
readers will
share projects you’ve tackled and fun finds that
you’ve brought back to life.
For now, why don’t you share some of the sites and blogs you
